Edifier E3300

The Edifier E3300 speaker set looks better than it sounds and lacks the sonic punch of its rivals

This small but stylish set of speakers has been designed to look nothing like a sound system. The speaker towers resemble futuristic pepper mills, while the subwoofer - a curved-edged, truncated tetrahedron - looks better than it sounds.

You can induce a bit of floor-shaking bass from it, but it doesn't have the oomph of its meatier rivals. However, it does a fair job for the price.

The wired remote, which attaches directly to the subwoofer, is a nice addition. A satisfyingly heavy unit, it's basically a volume control, though it also has ports to plug in a speaker or a line-in from another device, such as an iPod.
